TORPEDOES SOCCER CLUB POLICIES

(effective June 30, 2020)

1. Affiliations - The Torpedoes Soccer Club (TSC) shall be affiliated with the United States Youth Soccer Association and U.S. Club Soccer.  Its teams play in the Northern Counties Soccer Association (NCSA) and EDP leagues.  Teams may play in other leagues with the permission of the Board of Directors (the Board).

2. Carding of Players – TSC strongly disfavors players dual carding with other clubs.  The Board may permit a player to be dual carded with another soccer club or clubs if the player and the other club(s) agree that TSC is the player’s primary club.  The player must immediately seek permission from the Board to hold a card with another club(s).  In addition, by registering with TSC or seeking to be dual-carded, the player thereby consents to TSC contacting the other club(s) to confirm that the Torpedoes is the player’s primary club.  The failure to the seek permission of TSC to card with another club or the failure of a player to meet the player’s obligations as a member of his or her TSC team due to the player’s involvement with another club may result in the expulsion of the player with no refund of fees.

3. Player Commitment - Players are expected to attend every scheduled Torpedoes practice and game.  If a player misses a practice or a game due to a conflict with another sport during the fall season, the coach may reduce the player’s play time.  Excessive absence may result in a player's expulsion from the Torpedoes.  The Torpedoes do not have a rule barring a player from playing soccer and another sport in the fall, but the club strongly suggests that parents give a great deal of thought to whether playing multiple sports in the fall is a good idea for their child, particularly in light of the commitment necessary to be a Torpedoes player.

4. Team Reimbursement – The Board will reimburse each team for:

  • registration for one league per season;
  • one set of player passes;
  • referee fees for one league and tournament games (and not scrimmages), subject to the coaches meeting attendance policy;
  • registration for one cup-style tournament per season and up to $250 for that one tournament.

5. Meeting Attendance – A team may only miss one meeting per season (season meaning fall or spring).  A team that misses more than one meeting in a season will forfeit reimbursement of 50% of that team’s referee’s fees for that season.  Although each team is required to have only one representative at each meeting, the board strongly encourages that coach/trainers and parent representatives attend the meetings.

6. Team Designation – Teams formed at the U10 and above age groups will be referred to, within in each group, as the Red (first), White (second), and Black (third) teams.  Teams in younger age groups may be referred to by names approved by the Board.

7. Tournament Play - All teams U9 and above are expected to play in a tournament on or near Labor Day, Columbus Day, and Memorial Day.

8. Labor Day Tournament – all teams U9 and above must play in the Torpedoes-sponsored Labor Day tournament.

9. Memorial Day Tournament – to promote club unity and for the ease the of the club’s parents with multiple players in the club, the Board will designate a Memorial Day tournament that all teams U9 and above are expected to attend.  Any team desiring to play in another Memorial Day tournament must receive permission from the Board.

10. Registration Fees and Team Funds – The Board will set the amount of registration fees before tryouts.  Each team will establish a team fund, into which players’ families will contribute for expenses including coach/trainer fees.  Each team that (1) practices more than twice per week in a season (fall and/or spring) will pay the club from their team fund an amount to be determined by the Board per player as a Max Usage Fee, and/or (2) that plays in more than one league in a season (fall and/or spring) will pay the club from their team fund an amount to be determined by the Board per player, as a Max Field Usage Fee.  Each team that practices more than twice a week in a season and plays in more than one league in a season will pay both Max Usage Fees for that season.

11. Coach Certification – all head coaches for teams must, at a minimum, hold a coaching certification, diploma, or license commensurate with the age group they are coaching.  All assistant coaches for teams must, at a minimum, hold a coaching certification, diploma, or license, such as an New Jersey Youth Soccer State Certificate or F license, or a United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) small-sided diploma.  A safety course alone, while helpful, will not meet this requirement.
